Principle of Large and Small Corrugated Rollers

There is a relatively new technology for positive pressure corrugated rollers, called large and small corrugated rollers. The diameter of the corrugated roller formed on the top is larger than that of the corrugated roller formed on the bottom, with one diameter being 540mm and the other being 325mm. The benefits of large and small corrugated rollers are to improve vibration, heating area, and corrugated strength.

corrugated roll

When the corrugated roller is large and small, the center of gravity will shift downwards, which greatly improves the vibration and stability of the entire machine. At the same speed, if the speed of the large corrugated roller is lower, the wear of the corrugated roller will be smaller, the heating area will be larger, and the corrugated forming effect will be better.

Comparison of Advantages and Disadvantages of Corrugated Rollers of Different Sizes

1. The larger the roller diameter, the greater the hardness, the smaller the curvature, the larger the steam space, the better the shock resistance, and the more stable its operation.

2. It can reduce the distance between rollers, lower tension, and maximize the advantage of large rollers.

3. Due to the low wear of large corrugated rollers, the number of teeth worn per unit length of paper is reduced.

4. Long contact time can achieve higher machine speeds in the same amount of time.

5. The more contact ridges there are, the greater the tension, and the easier it is to break the paper, so it is necessary to improve the surface smoothness of the roller.

6. It is difficult for the upper and lower corrugated rollers to have the same wear rate and are prone to deflection.

7. The small roller is prone to wear and tear.

Parameter Design of Corrugated Roller

The parameter design of corrugated rollers is very important. If there are errors in parameter design, there will be significant errors in paper consumption. The parameters of corrugated rollers include rib height, rib number, tooth tip radius, and tooth valley radius.

1. Paper consumption rate. The edge height and paper consumption rate are directly related, and to reduce the paper consumption rate, the edge height must be lowered. Taking B tile as an example, the height of the tungsten carbide corrugated roller is 2.5mm, and the height of the chrome plated roller is 2.6-2.7mm. The difference in height is 0.1mm, which reduces the paper consumption by 2cm per meter.

2. The more ridges there are, the higher the paper consumption rate.

3. Tooth tip arc radius. In fact, the radius of the tooth crest arc cannot be changed infinitely, so what we can change is the height and number of ridges.

Here is a special reminder that reducing the corrugation height is meaningless when you are not using tungsten carbide corrugated rollers (which are more wear-resistant), because due to the wear and tear of the paper on the corrugated rollers, they will quickly be worn down, resulting in more corrugations per unit length, without actually reducing the paper consumption rate. If the tungsten carbide coating wears out, due to the higher hardness of the tungsten carbide ridges than the ridges, the tooth tips will grind the ridges higher and higher, which is actually a waste of paper. Therefore, the detection of tungsten carbide life, that is, the detection of the surface tungsten carbide coating, is very important.
